MODO PAPER THIN TITANIUM

OUR STORY

MODO was born in 1990 in Soho, New York, under the entrepreneurial spirit of its founder, Alessandro Lanaro. Since its beginning, MODO has evolved into a company that designs, manufactures, and distributes a successful portfolio of house, designer, and contemporary lifestyle brands – all under the common denominator of design and innovation.

Our brands include MODO, ECO, Derek Lam, 10 Crosby, and several others. MODO is a global company, with offices in New York, Milano, and Stockholm.

Today, MODO drives the eyewear industry’s effort in sustainability and social responsibility. With initiatives such as producing frames with 95% recycled content or biobased materials (our ECO brand), planting a tree for every frame a customer purchases (ECO’s “One Frame – One Tree”), or giving free spectacles to those in need (MODO’s “Buy a Frame – Give a Frame”), MODO is a pioneer in merging style and purpose.

Inspired by the cities we live in – New York, Milano, Stockholm – we combine manufacturing technology and hand-crafted tradition. We strive to share a purpose, and with our “Buy a Frame – Give a Frame” pledge, we provide free spectacles to those in need with every pair of MODO purchased.

6.8 GRAMS, FLEXIBLE, COLORFUL

Our “Beta-Titanium 153” material is only 0.6 mm thick. Or thin, we should say. A frame so light you don’t even feel that it’s there.

0.6 mm thin Beta Titanium means absolute comfort, as the frame perfectly adapts to the shape of your face.

TR90 Ultra is a 2.1 mm thick elastic polyamide that adds a pop of color to a collection that seamlessly blends lightness and proportions.

MANUFACTURING

Our Beta Titanium 153 material is only 0.6 mm thick. It’s a complex material to work with, due to its strength and high flexibility. Manufacturing Paper-Thin Titanium requires a great deal of laser technology, as well as high-precision bending equipment to turn a two-dimensional laser-cut shape into a Paper-Thin Titanium frame. The TR 90 Ultra 2.1 mm thick material, used for the eye-wire rims, is first injected into a sheet and then cut with precision drills to carve a perfect groove.

METAL CORE ACETATE

MODO’S Metal Core Acetate collection merges technological innovation with functional style. Its resilient stainless steel core, laminated between a super thin, 2.8 mm acetate front, keeps the frame super light and always in shape.

Manufacturing each Metal Core Acetate frame requires a complex, technologically advanced process. CNC (Computer Numerical Control) Machining precisely creates the housing inside the front acetate layers for the laser-cut stainless steel insert. The Metal Core is placed within its acetate housing, and is then pressed together with state-of-the-art, high temperature equipment. The result is one of the thinnest, strongest, and most stable acetate frames available.  TO COLLECTION
